State Railways was separated 1988, that SJ manage the rolling stock and Banverket
established to manage the infrastructure.
Banverket is a high tech authority with more than 14 milliard sek in annual turnover.
Banverket is worldleading in ATP, Automatic Train Protection.
Banverket maintain and develop the technical system who together establish a modern
railwaysystem. The main task is to plan, build and maintain the 10 000 km state main
track.
We maintain the roadbed and tracks, shuntings, electrical-, signaling-, and
telecommunications.
At the moment there is a extensive reconstruction and new construction to modernize the
railway to meet the demands in the future to keep a non-pulluting, safety and effective
part of the Swedish transportation system.
7 363 people is employed in Banverket at working sites all over the country, of these
is 809 women. (sept 1997)
